Super Bowl Squares for Charity!
As you all know, I love the Super Bowl, and I love Team In Training and I wanted to bring the two together. Not so interested in football, but looking for a reason to watch? Love football, but your team didn’t make it this year? The likelihood that I will ever cheer my beloved Lions on in the Super Bowl seems so remote that I need to find some way (other than the promise of...

And on the 7th day, she rested...
Today has been a lot of this: and some of this: And that is just fine with me. Sundays after long runs on Saturdays are for relaxing, and cleaning, and apparently for baking. I have to have my recipes locked down for the Super Bowl next weekend, so I figured I would “try them out” today and take them to work to get opinions. (I have a race next Sunday morning and I need to plan...

Remember when I said...
that Nike Women’s “My New Obsession” on Facebook would be the death of me (and my bank account)? Well they’ve done it again… I. Want. This.

"Doing Life" on a Saturday Morning...
Sometimes, when I set my alarm for “way too early” on a Saturday morning, I get a little bit sad. And then I realize that I accomplish more before 11:00 on a Saturday morning than I do during the work week. Tomorrow morning I’m supposed to be at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park by 8:30 for a Team In Training GTS, but I’m changing things up a bit. I have 9 miles on the...

The hills are alive, with the sound of music...
Tonight’s training schedule called for hills and I decided to do them on the treadmill. I know some people aren’t crazy about running with music and I have been dabbling with ditching the headphones - mostly on social runs. (That would have been unthinkable when I trained for my first half marathon.) I would like to continue phasing out my iPod so that I don’t use it as a...

Note to self...
It is not ok to not have dinner the night before a run. It wasn’t on purpose and it’s really unusual for me to not eat — I love food and am keenly aware that eating properly is just as key to healthy living as exercise. Food is fuel! But I wasn’t very hungry yesterday after getting home from work and napping and I just kind of continued to put off the dinner preparations...

“The world is but a canvas to the imagination.” —...
So I’ve been considering getting a Flip Video camera for a while. The creative juices are flowing and I have all sorts of ideas (whether they’re good ideas and capable of being executed remains to be seen) for videos. Now, I am not at all savvy in the realms of video editing and I’m certainly no professional when it comes to videography. I do however, feel that I owe it to...

This is a Tuesday morning that feels like a Monday morning. I feel like I’m being punished for having the day off yesterday. I won’t bore you with the ridiculous, “you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me” work-related events of the morning, but I will tell you that they cherry on top of this shit sundae is the weather. It’s not exactly “nice” in New York today. ...

Sneaky, sneaky...
Yesterday was a rest day and today was only supposed to be strength training. I had the most ridiculous hankering for a run yesterday, but I had to remind myself that the rest days are just as much a part of training as the long runs, intervals, and cross training. So I didn’t run yesterday, but I did sneak in a run tonight. I did a short/quick 2 miles (nearly did 3 but I reminded myself...

Bryan and Ryan Explain the World: Why Those Extra... →
bryanandryanexplaintheworld: I generally like fruit. In fact it might be my favorite food group. That or ‘brunch’ foods. Which I realize isn’t technically a food group and might sound like cheating because it entails the awesomeness of both breakfast skillets and sandwiches, but I really don’t care. I’m sorry, I’m not…

I just stumbled upon your page and saw that you are doing TNT. I am also training for my first half with TNT. Good luck with your training and your race!

Woohoo! Imagine my surprise when I logged into my Nike+ account with this morning’s run and Paula Radcliffe pops up to congratulate me on my fastest 10k ever. I’m tickled because it was so unexpected. It was a cold run. We ran the large loop in Central Park along the same course as the NYC Half (we will be running clockwise). Lots of hills! It’s nice to be able to get familiar...

Now that I am fully recovered, I’m looking forward to a run. After a solid week of running last week, and several days of languishing on the couch/in bed this week, I need to get back into it. Bolstering this drive to get in those miles is the impending arrival of these babies:  UPS Tracking says that they are “out for delivery” and that I can expect them by the end of the...

I really wish that I was sitting in the theater preparing myself for 2 hours of running/racing glory, but alas, I am stuck at home doing the mounds and mounds of laundry (running sure does generate a lot of extra laundry) that were neglected while I was laying in bed trying to kick the stomach flu. I’m really hoping that this finds its way to a wider release and eventually (if I can wait...

Sick Day Doldrums
So, the majority of my day has been spent sleeping and downing liquids and then sleeping some more. These are both good things because I’m beginning to feel a little more human and my kidneys have stopped feeling so achy and angry. It’s also a good thing that today was a scheduled rest day. Cary at roadto224 posted the TED video with Neil Pasricha, whose brainchild is the blog 1000...

Fred Lebow Classic & The Stomach Flu
I woke up this morning before my race feeling a little queasy. I chalked it up to the drinks last night (I was so good and practiced moderation, so this was a huge bummer) dehydration, and an empty stomach. I drank some water, ate a Clif bar and off I went. It was a freezing cold 27 degrees when I left my apartment, and the wind was kicking up. (I still haven’t managed to warm up.) I got to...

I Love Saturdays
Because the Fred Lebow Classic was moved to tomorrow morning due to weather, I was fortunate enough to get to sleep in. After waking up at 10, walking Chino and having a bagel and coffee, I’m ready to get this day started. Chino has already started his day with his usual couch cushion mashing nap. On the docket for me today: Clean the apartment Quick 3 miles OUTSIDE Make a playlist...

What a difference a run makes. My run, even though it was on the treadmill, was fantastic. Sure, I would have loved to be outside with a change in scenery and maybe a breeze (whoa! dream big!) but I feel like I have overcome (at least partially) my serious aversion to the treadmill and that is something to be excited about. Contributing to my excitement is the meeting that 94monkeys and I have in...

I was in to work early to get a jump start on the seemingly never-ending behavioral experiment I had to run today. Once I finished, I decided to head home with the data files that have been piling up for the past few weeks months. With last minute experiments being crammed in before the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, I was left with very little time to sift through excel spreadsheets that have...

2 Half Marathons in 2 Weeks?
Am I crazy? I was perusing the NYRR website and noticed that they added races for the month of April. Naturally, I got excited and clicked through to see what kind of delights they were offering and I noticed the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half Marathon is scheduled for April 3rd. Now, as I announced last week/earlier this week (I’m losing track of time…) I plan to...
