No, but seriously, we’re going to a ball… This weekend, Drew and I will be spending time in DC with his family for his brother’s graduation. Drew informed me a few weeks ago that we would be attending a senior ball on Friday night and that the attire was black tie optional. This sent me into a frenzy… Yay! But what will I wear?! As I was lying awake at night I wished that my fairy godmother would come down and bibbidy-bobbidy-boo me into a fantastically awesome get-up à la Cinderella.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work that way (though my “fairy godmother” is the coolest.) So, I got online and headed to RentTheRunway.com and managed to find two dresses that I thought would serve my purposes nicely without breaking the bank. They aren’t long gowns, but because it’s black tie optional, I figured I would try to find a middle ground. Here’s what I found:
The dress on the right is a deep blue and not being fashion-savvy enough* to know whether or not it is currently acceptable to mix navy dresses and black shoes, I went ahead and got some nude heels at Zappos.com. (I have black heels that I can wear with the black dress if I want.) The purse is a little Kenneth Cole clutch that I found for super cheap on Amazon.com. Whether the clutch will work with my nude shoes remains to be seen (they arrive sometime today) but I figured it was worth a shot and I think I will get plenty of use out of the shoes and clutch independently.
The dresses arrive tonight and I can’t wait to try them on and decide which one I will wear. I admit that I am a little nervous about sizing and everything, but the people at RentTheRunway.com are one step ahead of worriers like me and they ship two sizes at your request (for free!) to ensure that you fit into and look good in the dress you ordered. I guess we will see how it all pans out!
*I am a complete failure at being girlie and glamorous and fashionable… I just like to be comfortable.
