Missing my crazy family already…

After being surrounded by my favorite people for the past 11 days, my apartment feels a little too empty.

(Taken with instagram)

So happy I was able to spend Mother’s Day with my beautiful momma.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I love you!

Just landed in Michigan and got home to discover that my mom picked up a River Bank Run yard sign for me!

Tomorrow I go to the expo, have lunch with Melissa and little Brielle, watch my sister play softball, welcome my other sister back to the mitten, and have a pre-race slumber party with my friend Woo.

(And that’s just my first day home…)

This is going to be a very, very busy trip…

February Photo-A-Day: Front Door…
Living in an apartment, I technically have 2 front doors. This one just happens to be the more interesting of the two.

February Photo-A-Day: Front Door…

Living in an apartment, I technically have 2 front doors. This one just happens to be the more interesting of the two.

While sitting on the floor, drenched in sweat after completing the Plyometric Cardio Circuit from the Insanity Workout and contemplating my timeline for tomorrow morning’s run in Central Park, I heard someone walk up to my door. The footsteps were quickly followed by a piece of paper shooting across my floor. I expected a menu. (Any New Yorker knows what I mean… There were days that I would come home from work to a pile of 4 or 5 delivery menus.)

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find an invitation to join the other tenants for coffee and bagels this Saturday morning in our lobby.

I work in Harlem, so it’s not a new locale for me, but as a resident I’m gaining an interesting perspective. Everyone I have interacted with is so warm. People in my building are friendly and I’ve actually had conversations with them in the elevator. (OMG, conversations you guys…) I’m falling more and more in love with my new little corner of the world, and I’m really hoping to get some more exploring done this weekend. Also, I just discovered that Amateur Night at The Apollo opens its 2012 season on February 1st. Anybody interested in going?

This is what it looks like outside my window. A snowy fire escape with the snow still coming down. That means I’m going to wait a while on my run and instead, curl up in blankets with my coffee.

I went for a nice little 4 mile run this morning down the trail near the house I grew up in. It was really cold, and my lungs had a hard time getting on board with the run, but after a day of travel and eating crappy food, it was just what I needed.

Sure, it’s not the Hudson River with views of Lady Liberty and the sprawl of tall buildings further uptown, but I almost prefer this. It’s peaceful and familiar and even without the leaves, I think it’s gorgeous.

These commercials often inspire tears of joy and homesickness in me, but this one made me smile because this weekend I intend to embrace every bit of fall in Michigan that I can.

The leaves and orchards and produce and weather are perfect. I wish I could bottle them all and bring them back to New York with me.

There is nothing better than fall in Michigan. I can’t wait to get home!

We’re settled back into our apartment after an exciting (and thankfully) uneventful evacuation. Smiling about a dry, undamaged apartment and the availability of electricity and water.

Thinking of those who were not so lucky and those who are still in harm’s way.

So, should Irene show up in New York City, Drew, Chino and I would find ourselves in Evacuation Zone A.
Hmmmm…
